1 Overview:
MunicipalGIS-Online is an internet mapping interface bringing full-featured GIS
browsing and querying to cities and towns nationwide.
This intuitive interface requires little or no training to use and offers easy
Navigation, Printing, Exporting, and Abutters tools as well as a detailed
Information Card for each Parcel.
To get started, we suggest trying the Navigation tools. Then, click around
on all of the buttons on the interface and see what happens! If you have

Browser Requirements:
To use
the online mapping interface you will need:

A JavaScript
enabled web browser
-
A web browser
that supports Frames
-
Microsoft
Internet Explorer is recommended,
but most browsers are supported.

Navigation:
To move
around the map, use the Navigation buttons to:
Zoom
- In, Out
Pan
- North, South, East, West

You may
also use the Zoom In, Zoom Out, or Recenter
Tools
(section 4) to interact with the map image.
To return
to the map start, or "Home" location, click the Home button.

Tools:
The map
tools provide a means of interacting with the
map image.
To use a
tool, first activate it by clicking on a tool
icon, then click on the map image.

Zoom
In Click on the
map image to Zoom In
Zoom
Out Click on the
map image to Zoom Out
Recenter Click on
the map image to Recenter the map on the clicked point
Select
Parcel Click on a
Parcel to view its Parcel Information Card
(section 10)
Measure Click on
the map image to place the first red measurement marker. Then move the mouse
cursor to view the distance between the first red marker and the second red
marker. The distance is displayed in feet near the bottom of the map interface.
Hyperlink Click
on a map feature, such as a Parcel or a Building to view a web page or a file
with more information about the feature. If Hyperlinks are not enabled, you
will receive a message when you activate the tool.
Note:
In most browsers, your mouse icon will change to match the tool that is
selected. This is not possible in other browsers where you will always see your
default mouse icon.
5 Map
Layers:
The right
side of the map layout shows the available data layers. Layers are stacked on
top of one another in the map image in the order that they appear in the list.
Turn layers On or Off by checking or un-checking the checkbox next to each
layer name.

Note:
Aerial Photos slow drawing time significantly and only appear when zoomed in.
We suggest turning the photos on after you have found a location of interest.

Parcel Search:
To search
for a particular parcel, choose Address, Owner, or Parcel ID from the
Search area.

You will
then be sent to a new page with a
list of
possible search values.

When you
choose an item from the search list,
the
Parcel Information Card
(section 10) with detailed
information about the parcel will be displayed.
From the
Parcel Information Card
(section 10) you can click a button to Find Parcel On Map or
use the Abutters Tool
(section 8)
to generate a list of properties within a specified distance of the selected
parcel.

Parcel Selection / Get Info:
To view
the Parcel Information Card
(section 10)
for a parcel, activate the Selection Tool by clicking
on the button with an "S" on it from the Tools
menu (section 4).
With the
Selection tool activated, click on a parcel within the map image to view its
Parcel Information Card
(section 10).
You may
also use one of the three Parcel Search
(section 6) methods to view detailed parcel information.

Parcel Information Card:
The
Parcel Information Card displays information
about the currently selected parcel. To select a parcel, use either the
Selection Tool or one of the three parcel search methods (Address, Owner,
Parcel ID).
Click the
"Find Parcel On Map" button to zoom to and highlight the parcel in a new
map window.
Use the
Abutters Tool
(section 8),
found at the bottom right of each parcel information card, to generate a list of
parcels within a specified distance of the selected parcel.

Print / Export:
To
display a map image suitable for 8"x11" landscape printing, click the Print
button.

To
display just the map image in a new window, click Export. To save the
map image to your computer,
right-click on the image and choose Save As.
The print
layout is designed for standard 8.5 x 11 inch paper in Landscape mode. To turn
on Landscape mode in your internet browser, please go to
File->Page Setup
and choose "Landscape"
as the page orientation.
When printing a map, the background colors on the map layout will not show up on
the printout unless you have explicitly told your browser to print them. If you
would like to print a map with all of the background colors please do the
following:
Internet Explorer: Click
Tools->Internet Options
and then the
Advanced
tab. Scroll down the list and find the Printing section. Check "Print background colors and images".
Netscape Navigator: Click
File->Page Setup
and then
Page Options.
Scroll down the list and find the
Printing
section. Check "Print Backgrounds".

Abutters Tool:

An Abutters Tool is available to generate a list of Parcels
within a specified distance of the selected Parcel. Each
Parcel Information Card
(section 10)
displays the
Abutters Tool in
the bottom right. To view a Parcel Information Card,
use either the Selection Tool or one of the
Parcel Search methods
(section 6).
To use
the Abutters Tool, enter a distance in feet and click either Full List
or Quick List to view a list of parcels within the specified distance of
the selected parcel.
Full
List displays a
full parcel information card for each parcel found in the search.
Quick
List displays just
owner address information for each parcel found in the search.
11 Other
Features:
Map
Size - Change the
size of the map image using the three buttons in the upper right. A smaller map
will draw faster and is recommended for slower internet connections.

Map
Scale - The current
map scale is displayed in near the bottom right of the map interface.

Overview Window -
Shows your current map location in Red, relative to the full town or city view.
