Municipal GIS Desktop – Main Application |
|
Finding your way around is easy with our intuitive GIS map interface!
Search lists provide selectable Street Addresses, Owner Names, and Parcel
ID Numbers to quickly locate and get information about properties. Users
can turn layers on or off, print and export maps, and even create abutters
notification lists right from the main application window. |

Municipal GIS Desktop – Property Information |
|
With MunicipalGIS-Desktop, detailed property information is easily
accessible and displayed in a familiar “assessor’s card” format. Users can
view, print, or export a detailed property information card for each
selected parcel, including a locus map and building photo. Information
from the selected properties can be exported directly to report documents
or mailing labels to create Abutters Notification Lists. |
 |
|
Municipal GIS Desktop – Buffer & Select |
| Users can easily select
parcels within a specified buffer distance. The Buffer Tool is located
right on the main window for quick access. |

|
Municipal GIS Desktop – Abutters Notification Lists |
|
Users can export property information directly to
custom reports or mailing labels. Unlike most reporting systems, we export
directly to Microsoft Word – a familiar environment that gives the user
control over the document.

Municipal GIS Desktop – FAQ |
Frequently Asked Questions:
Why implement both an online GIS and a desktop application?
The real benefits to desktop GIS are speed, advanced features, and the
ability to build and customize your own maps. Our desktop GIS solution for
municipalities offers faster access and advanced query features that the
web has yet to make possible. With our desktop software, you will have
access to up to date property information in real time and serve updated
GIS data to each user on your network from one central location.
Advanced features only found in our desktop application include:
-Access data locally or over a network at a central location
-Buffer any point, line, or polygon feature
-Buffer any arbitrary point
-Build a parcel selection list
-Design custom report documents in Microsoft Word
-Create your own additional maps
-Add / Remove data layers
-Custom layer symbology
-Custom feature labeling
-Add map title to printouts
-Export full map layout to image file
-Advanced query tools let you search for a feature in any layer
-Drawing tools let you add notes to your map image
What if we don’t have GIS data?
The core of any municipal GIS is a parcel layer that shows town property
boundary lines. If you do not yet have a GIS parcel layer, please contact
us for a low price estimate to have one developed. With certain hosting
plans or software purchases, we will develop your parcel layer for you at
little or no cost. This must be the best deal in small town GIS!
Is GIS right for our town or county?
The case for GIS is an easy one, and this is why you’re hearing about GIS
from your neighboring towns. Numerous case studies show that GIS offers a
time and price cost savings on multiple fronts. If the budget is there
(and with our solution it can be!) we’re confident that GIS is right for
you.
Can MainStreetGIS provide custom versions or additional town maps?
Our desktop interface provides an excellent platform on which to build
custom interactive maps. We are happy to provide additional desktop GIS
maps derived from any spatial data that is relevant to your town – Zoning
Maps, Overlay Districts, Utilities, Watersheds, FEMA, etc. The cost for
additional maps varies, so please contact us for a price quote.
What types of GIS data can be used?
Our desktop system is compatible with almost all standard GIS formats and
raster images. If necessary, we can convert your data to a usable format
before it is uploaded to our servers. Please contact us with any specific
data concerns. |
